A Mahjong Hall in Your Browser

Sunset Mahjong Club is a love letter to arcade mahjong: a single table, one mentor across from you, and nine seats to climb. It runs entirely in your browser — no download, no account.

九

Nine Seats to Clear

Each seat is a mentor with her own starting points and a number of hands you must win. Beat the required hands or empty her points to advance; lose all of yours and the seat resets.

立

Real Riichi Flavour

Chi, pon, kan, riichi and ron. Dora, kan dora and ura dora. Furiten that remembers your river. A focused two-player adaptation that keeps the tension of a riichi table.

力

POWER and Opening Items

Draws can grant POWER. Spend it before a hand on fourteen arcade-style opening items, from swapping your starting tiles to preparing a seven-pairs or full-flush tenpai.

02

The Nine Mentors

From the gentle first seat to the master of the ninth, every mentor plays with her own temperament. Clear a seat and she unlocks new looks and a short reward scene.

How a Seat Plays

One mentor, one table, and a clear goal for every seat.

STEP 01

Insert Coin, Take a Seat

Pick an unlocked seat. The mentor introduces herself, and the hand begins with you in the East seat.

STEP 02

Draw, Discard, Call

Tap a tile to discard. Chi, pon or kan the mentor’s discards when they help, and declare riichi on a closed tenpai hand.

STEP 03

Win the Required Hands

Tsumo or ron with at least one yaku. Reach the seat’s win count, or drive the mentor to zero points, to clear it.

STEP 04

Spend POWER, Unlock Looks

Use POWER on A–N opening items before a hand. Each win reveals a new mentor look; clearing the seat unlocks her reward scene.

Rules at a Glance

Sunset Mahjong Club is a deliberately simplified two-player adaptation, not a full competitive riichi rule set. The in-game rules page lists every detail.

Simplified two-player riichi

  • You are always East and draw first; the mentor sits South. You start every seat with 1,000 points.
  • Standard 136-tile set with a fourteen-tile dead wall: dora, kan dora and ura dora are all in play.
  • Chi, pon and kan are available to both sides. Riichi costs 1,000 points and needs a closed tenpai hand.
  • Supported yaku include riichi, closed tsumo, tanyao, yakuhai, pinfu, toitoi, sanshoku, sanankou, honitsu, chinitsu and chiitoitsu, plus suuankou, kokushi and tenhou as yakuman.
  • Furiten is tracked from your own river. A hand lasts at most 36 ordinary draws; no tenpai at exhaustive draw costs 1,500 points.
  • Draws have a chance to grant POWER. Spend it on one of fourteen A–N opening items before a hand; only one item per hand.

Good to Know

Price

Free to play. The in-game “coin” is part of the arcade presentation; there is nothing to buy and no account to create.

Language

The game interface, mentor dialogue and rules page are in Traditional Chinese. Tile faces use standard mahjong characters, so the table itself reads the same everywhere.

Devices

Plays in a modern desktop or mobile browser. Built with TypeScript, Phaser and Vite; nothing to install.

Progress

Unlocked seats, POWER and earned mentor looks are saved in your browser on this device. Refreshing starts a fresh hand rather than restoring an unfinished one.

Custom Mentor Art

Upload your own PNG, JPEG or WebP images for any mentor look, or import a media pack. Custom art stays local to your browser.

Inspiration

An original homage to classic nine-opponent arcade mahjong: the seat structure, POWER draws and opening items are reimagined with this game’s own values.
